How infrared light and cameras work
Properties of infrared light: Infrared light is a long-wavelength, invisible light wave, usually in the range of 700 nanometers to 1 millimeter. Although it cannot be directly perceived by the human eye, it can be captured by the infrared sensor of the camera and is often used to provide additional lighting in low-light environments or at night.

Modern surveillance cameras, especially night vision cameras, are often equipped with infrared lights. The camera uses these infrared lights to capture images, both during the day and at night. In fact, infrared lights enable cameras to capture images clearly in nighttime environments, even in complete darkness.

How cameras work: Generally speaking, the main function of a camera is to capture light and convert these light signals into digital images through its sensor. Common security cameras include night vision cameras with infrared sensors, which can rely on infrared light to form images without external light sources.

Infrared cameras can "see" objects in the dark by reflecting and absorbing ambient infrared light. Therefore, infrared light is usually not an obstacle to the camera, but a necessary light source to help the camera work properly.

Can infrared light block the camera?

According to the working principle of infrared light, the infrared light source itself cannot "block" the camera. However, excessive infrared light or improper use of infrared light may have a certain impact on the image quality of the camera.

Infrared light interferes with the normal operation of the camera sensor
If the infrared light is used improperly within the shooting range of the camera, it may interfere with the camera sensor. Especially when the camera is very sensitive to infrared rays, too strong or too much infrared light source may cause the sensor to be unable to process the image signal correctly, affecting the working effect of the camera. For example, the camera may have problems such as reflected light spots or too bright images, which will affect its normal monitoring function.
